Lead Baker

Busy natural and specialty foods store looking to add experienced baker to our in-house, on-premises team. Are you excited about the prospect of leading a team that cranks out production on schedule while maintaining a high level of product quality? Do you enjoy working independently and also as part of a hard-working team? Do you take pride in crafting beautiful baked goods from scratch?  We’re looking for an accomplished and reliable baker to lead our in-house bakery, which features fresh-baked, from-scratch, specialty scones, muffins, cookies, breads and granola.


  • Strong work ethic, pride in your work, and unfailing reliability

  • High level of organizational, planning, and management skills

  • High level of efficiency of production in high quality manner

  • Interest in natural foods and allergen-free baking

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a busy, fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work independently and complete high-quality work

  • Aptitude to accurately follow recipes and fractionally adjust ingredient measures

  • Experience using a commercial mixer and ovens

  • Physical ability to stand throughout shift

  • Ability to lift bulk ingredients weighing up to 50lbs

  • Ability to follow safe food handling protocols

  • Ability to maintain a clean, sanitary workspace



  • Manage daily morning bake of specialty scones, muffins, cookies, breads (from scratch)

  • Coordinate and plan weekly menu with company owner/manager

  • Collaborate with, and oversee, assistant baker/s (part-time)

  • Manage bakery inventory preparatory items

  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of bakery and equipment to high standard

  • Ensure retail baked goods display is stocked, clearly identified, and visually enticing


Hours:  Monday through Friday from 7:00am-3:00pm

Wage:  Competitive/dependent upon experience

Food Prep Operations


The Natural Grocer specializes in healthy and unique, made from scratch to-go foods and baked goods. Our kitchen is a busy place with a variety of foods being prepared and served throughout the day and the menu changes daily, offering vegan, vegetarian and healthy proteins to customers. Our Food Prep Specialist will work collaboratively as well as independently and must be organized, efficient, hold themselves to a high standard, and thrive in a busy work environment.

Core Roles:

  • Prepare ingredients and follow established recipes

  • Assist with counter service

  • Take customer phone orders

  • Maintain clean stocked deli cases


Core Skills:

  • Demonstrated high levels of organization and reliability

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a busy shared workspace

  • Demonstrated ability to perform high quality work in efficient manner without supervision

  • Team-oriented, problem-solver with high level of integrity

  • Outstanding customer service skills

  • Experience in sauté cooking, construction of dressings, marinades and spreads helpful but not required

Starting Wage:  $18.00+/hour

Benefits available for full-time employees

Days/Hours: full-time, 5 days/week (will consider part-time)

Kitchen Floater: Dishwasher/Receiver/Customer Service

The kitchen/deli service area at The Natural Grocer is small and busy. Successful staff members will be those who enjoy working collaboratively and thrive in a busy work environment. This is a key position in our team and allows for a variety of work throughout the day (you're not just stuck on the dishwasher all day!).

Core Roles:

  • Washing, rinsing, sanitizing food service kitchen dishes

  • Maintaining clean orderly workspace

  • Receive food service orders/deliveries per department food handling procedures

  • Answer customer phone calls/questions in friendly helpful manner

Core Skills:

  • High level of responsibility, timeliness, and integrity

  • Effective communication skills and ability to thrive in a busy team-oriented workspace

  • Outstanding customer service and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to repeatedly lift 25-50 lbs


No prior experience is required; we will train you for this position. Excellent entry-level food service position with opportunity to learn all aspects of kitchen organization/function.

Starting Wage: $17/hr

Days/Hours: full-time, 5 days/week (will consider part-time)
