“A significant part of the pleasure of eating is in one’s accurate consciousness of the lives and the world from which the food comes from.”
~Wendell Berry, American novelist, poet, environmental activist, cultural critic, and farmer
Black Earth Compost offers curbside compost pick up for restaurants, businesses, schools, residents and other producers of organic waste across Eastern Massachusetts. Black Earth Compost cuts waste removal costs for businesses by collecting organic material derived from food and paper products and transports them to farms for conversion to rich compost for farmers, gardeners and landscapers, rather than have it incinerated or buried in landfills. Black Earth composts all unusable food material for The Natural Grocer.
Farm Fresh Clothing Co.® uses 100% organic cotton from the USA to produce our silky-soft Natural Grocer t-shirts. Shirts are printed with eco-friendly, water-based inks. They do this by advocating for waste reduction, and designing the highest quality, longest lasting reusable bags. We use Chico Bags for our Grocer Logo recycled nylon shopping bags.
The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA), formed in 1971, is the oldest and largest State-supported organic organization in the country. The purpose of the Association is to help farmers and gardeners grow organic food, fiber and other crops; protect the environment; recycle natural resources; increase local food production; support rural communities; and illuminate for consumers the connection between healthful food and environmentally sound farming practices. The Natural Grocer works with Maine farming cooperatives to offer customers fresh regional produce and other Maine-produced products throughout the year. The Grocer is also the southern most ticket outlet for MOFGA's annual Common Ground Country Fair in Unity, Maine.
